Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about dojdi towers and home hydroponics.

General

Hydroponics is growing plants without soil — the roots grow in nutrient-enriched water. It sounds technical, but a dojdi tower automates everything: a pump circulates the solution and you simply top up water and nutrients, then harvest. Ideal even for complete beginners.

Towers

It depends on your space and how much you want to grow. 50 cm (8 plants) is great for a tabletop or small balcony and for starting out. 100 cm (16) is the most popular for households. 150 and 200 cm (24–32 plants) are for those wanting an abundant, near self-sufficient harvest of greens.

If the tower sits by a bright window, balcony or terrace, lighting isn't necessary. If you grow in a basement, an interior room without enough sun, or you want to grow in winter and at night, choose the LED model. The LED has a timer so it turns itself on and off.

The tower body, the reservoir with pump, net cups and growing medium, seeds and 1 L of ready-made nutrient for the purpose you choose (salads, herbs, strawberries, flowers or universal), plus a quick-start guide. With the LED option you also get the grow light with a timer.

Very little. The pump and LED together draw under 20 W — comparable to an energy-saving bulb. Monthly electricity cost is usually just a few euros, depending on lighting use.

No. We use a quiet submersible pump that runs barely audibly — it's perfectly fine in a living room or bedroom.

Nutrients

Choose by what you grow: salads and leafy greens, herbs, strawberries and berries, flowers, or universal if you mix crops. The universal mix is a great safe option for beginners and mixed towers.

At the usual dose (2–4 ml/L), one litre is enough for roughly 200 litres of nutrient solution — which for most households lasts several months of growing.

Not to begin with — follow the label dosing and your plants will grow. But measuring EC (nutrient concentration) and pH (acidity, ideally 5.5–6.5) helps optimise growth and avoid problems. You'll find an EC/pH meter in the Accessories category.

Yes. Our nutrients are mineral, balanced and intended for growing edible crops. With correct dosing and a pre-harvest flush, your vegetables and herbs are completely safe to eat.

Growing

Salads and leafy greens, herbs, strawberries and many flowers do best. With some experience, fruiting plants like cherry tomatoes and peppers too (in taller towers). Root vegetables (carrots, potatoes) aren't suitable.

Faster than in soil. Leafy greens and salads can be picked in as little as 3–5 weeks from transplanting seedlings, and herbs continuously after that. Strawberries and fruiting plants need longer to first fruit.

The tower tolerates short absences. A full reservoir and correct dosing usually cover 1–2 weeks. For longer trips, ask someone to top up the water, or use a larger reservoir / lower flow.

Algae need light and nutrients — keep the reservoir closed and opaque and clean the system periodically. With clean water, good flow and regular maintenance, the system stays odour-free.

Shipping & support

We ship across Croatia via courier, and to EU countries on request. Cost and delivery time are shown at checkout. Towers ship securely packed and are simple to assemble.

Yes. A statutory warranty applies to towers and equipment, and we provide technical support and growing advice via prodaja@dojdi.eu and through the dojdi Academy.
